Summer 2007 activities by ISSS

DROP IN CONVERSATION THURSDAYS

All international students, scholars and spouses are invited to stop by for a weekly conversation hour! This is a great way to meet people, find out what is going on in Boulder and have fun, challenging conversations. The group meets on Thursdays, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., in the UMC by Domino's Pizza. For questions, contact janet.garcia@colorado.edu (or rebecca.sibley@colorado.edu).

SUMMER COFFEE HOUR

Summer Coffee Hour takes place on Fridays, at 5 p.m. in the same location (across from Baby Doe's in the UMC Grill) as during the semester. This is different from the International Coffee Hour held during the semester since it will not be sponsored by the Office of International Education and there will be no free refreshments. But it IS a way for everyone to meet and go to a local restaurant! For questions feel free to contact: Muneeb Kamal (muneeb.kamal@colorado.edu) or Dan Levinson (daniel.levinson@colorado.edu) or Diba Mani (manid@colorado.edu).

Accent Reduction Courses Summer 2007

Dear International Graduate Teachers,

Two great summer courses available for accent reduction. Please see below for details.

Thanks,
Vicky

1. Clearly Speaking for non-native English

This summer the University of Colorado Speech Language Hearing Center will be offering Clearly Speaking, an accent reduction, 7-week intensive individualized course for non-native English speakers wishing to improve their English pronunciation. The sessions will be held on Friday’s from 10-11:00 AM June 15-July 27th. The fee is $200, however we also have a sliding scale for individuals who can not afford that rate. The materials for the program are $90-$115 (depending if you choose audio cassette, CDs or interactive CD-ROM). There are still spots open in Clearly Speaking for this summer, please contact Mark Guiberson at Mark.Guiberson@colorado.edu if you would like to enroll.

2. Accent Reduction Course for Foreign Students

June 19-July 31, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-10:30 am. The course includes oral activities, self-taping, and one-on-one meetings with the native-speaker instructor throughout the course. Student accents are assessed for improvement areas and reasonable goals are set for each individual. Course instructed by Christina Brady and fee $360.
